Undertaking education and training as a coach is an important first step to ensure that you are on the right track in your coaching journey. The Gymnastics Australia (GA) Coach Accreditation Framework provides training for coaches at a variety of levels and across a range of Gymsports.
To become a gymnastics coach, you will need to gain a coaching accreditation and Technical Membership through GA. Accreditation courses compromise of blended learning opportunities including online courses, on-the-job training and face-to-face courses.
The Fundamental Gymanstics Coaching (FGC) accreditation is the first step in the coaching pathway and is the minimum requirement for coaching gymnastics. A Fundamentals coach will gain the skills and knowledge to coach entry level gymnastics sessions involving fundamental movement and beginner gymnastics skills. The FGC accreditation is generic to all gymsports. To commence this accreditation a trainee must be a minimum of 14 years old and always work under direct supervision. To complete the accreditation and commence independent coaching, a trainee must be a minimum of 15 years old.
Once you have gained your FGC accreditation you will be awarded one year’s complementary Technical Membership with GA. This allows you to access technical member benefits as well as critical insurance coverage through the National Risk Protection Programme.
